My go-to for calming a tantrum whether from my pre-school age son, or my primary age classroom students was to ignore the outburst. (On a rare occurrence child needed to be moved for safety purposes.). I thought ignoring worked as it did not engage the child and cause more anger. I now realize It did nothing to prevent another occurrence. I wish I had had these techniques to draw from. I was providing no assistance for developing emotional control or long-term behavior changes. Great ideas and thoughts in this article.
